Ashok Leyland, the Chennai based commercial vehicle manufacturer, is likely
to commence commercial production at its Pantnagar facility (Uttarakhand) by
March 2010.
The plant, which has a capacity of rolling out 50,000 medium and heavy
vehicles per year, is being set up at a cost of Rs 1,300 crore.
Meanwhile, Leyland is reviewing its manufacturing strategy with its JV
partner Nissan for light commercial vehicles. The vehicles are expected to come
out in the market by 2011. The company has also plans of manufacturing of
construction equipment such as wheel loaders and tempo loaders with another JV
partner, John Deer, with production scheduled to commence around the same time.
