Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has commissioned new research and development (R&D) centre in Chennai.
The newly inaugurated R&D centre named Mahindra Research Valley is spread over 125 acre inside the World City, near Chennai. The centre has come up at a cost of Rs 650 crore. It has 34 labs - an engine development centre, a fatigue test lab, alternative fuels, passenger safety and polymer technologies. The research facility is an automobile and tractor research and development centre from the group.
The company plans to launch a new tractor later this year. The new tractor will be designed at the Mahindra Research Valley and will be built at its Nagpur unit in Maharashtra. However, in future the tractors will be built at the company's Rs 300 crore new plant in Jehirabad in Andhra Pradesh, which will be ready by July 2012.
