The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved the Bamboo Industry Policy 2025, aiming to attract investments worth Rs 50,000 crore and create over five lakh work roles over the next decade.
The policy focuses on promoting bamboo cultivation and developing processing industries, offering farmers a sustainable income alternative comparable to traditional cash crops. It includes the establishment of 15 bamboo clusters across the state and aims to tap into the carbon credit market. In addition, the Cabinet sanctioned a development scheme for The People's Education Society, founded by Dr. BR Ambedkar.
The scheme will see the renovation, conservation, and modernisation of nine educational institutions and two hostels in Mumbai and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, with a budgetary provision of Rs 500 crore over five years.
