The Maharashtra government has approved a major revision in funding for the expansion of Kolhapur Airport, with a total allocation of Rs 2.9 billion.
This funding, formalised through a Government Resolution (GR), will cover the completion of land acquisition and related works. The proposal, made by the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), aims to acquire 30.25 hectares of land, including two hectares for joint measurement, and 3.60 hectares for diverting the Kolhapur–Hupari State Highway.
Rising compensation costs, driven by diverse land types such as horticultural plots and residential areas, will be compensated at market rates. Kolhapur Airport, previously managed by MIDC, was handed over to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in 2018 under the UDAN regional connectivity scheme. The project’s development is coordinated under a 2016 tripartite agreement.
