The Maharashtra government has approved the detailed project report (DPR) and implementation plan for the Rs 58,755 crore Uttan-Virar Sea Link project, aimed at enhancing connectivity between Mumbai’s western suburbs and Palghar region.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will oversee the 55.12 km corridor, which will feature a 24.35 km sea link and 30.77 km of connecting roads. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed in 60 months. The state will provide financial support, including Rs 2,619 crore for land acquisition and Rs 261 crore for rehabilitation and resettlement. Future phases will integrate with the Mumbai–Vadhavan Expressway Connectivity project.
The sea link project is seen as a crucial development for improving regional transport and facilitating access to the proposed Vadhavan Port. "This project will revolutionize connectivity, benefiting both Mumbai’s suburbs and the growing Palghar region," said an official.
