In a significant move for Akola's development, the Maharashtra government has approved Rs 208.76 crore for acquiring 22.24 hectares of land necessary for the expansion of Akola airport.
Expressing gratitude to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Akola MP Anup Dhotre highlighted that this expansion, which includes runway extension, is a collective aspiration of Akola's citizens. The Maharashtra State Civil Aviation Committee, led by the Chief Secretary, cleared the funding proposal after a series of high-level meetings.
The expansion will boost regional industrial, commercial, and tourism activities in Akola, Washim, and Buldhana, and enhance connectivity for devotees visiting Shegaon. MP Dhotre urged Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol to expedite further clearances for the airport’s operation. In a related move, Maharashtra has also allocated Rs 290.23 crore for the development of Kolhapur airport.
