Maharashtra Industries Minister Uday Samant on 07 July, 2025, announced a major Rs one lakh crore initiative to transform Gadchiroli into a steel production hub, as part of a broader strategy to develop a robust industrial ecosystem in eastern Maharashtra.
The move will also support steel-linked development across nearby districts including Chandrapur, Gondia, and Bhandara. The announcement was made in the state legislature under Rule 293. To facilitate investor confidence, the state has launched the District Industry Council initiative.
The Minister said, "Maharashtra has emerged as the leading state in implementing agreements signed during the World Economic Forum at Davos. We are executing 85 per cent to 87 per cent of those commitments—more than any other state." He added that the state has attracted Rs 1.45 lakh crore in new investments this year alone. In addition to Gadchiroli, industrial investments of Rs 60,000 crore are planned for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Rs 30,000 crore for Ratnagiri.
To further enhance infrastructure, land acquisition is ongoing for new industrial estates, including the Auric City project in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the Mhaswad Industrial Corridor, and the Dighi Port Corridor.
