Maharashtra is set to boost India's digital transformation with four new data centre parks in Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur, according to Industry Secretary P Anbalagan.
Speaking at the CII Datacentre Summit, he highlighted Maharashtra’s dominant position, hosting 60 percent of the country's data centre businesses, with Mumbai alone contributing 54.9 percent of total capacity. He emphasised the state’s world-class digital infrastructure, reliable power, and strategic connectivity.
The data centre capacity is projected to grow from 500 to 800 MW by 2028, reinforcing its role as India's digital hub. India’s total operational data centre capacity stands at 2,337 MW, and an additional 1.5 GW expansion is vital to meet future demands.
Anbalagan underscored the importance of energy management, noting that Maharashtra's new data centre policy enables power banking between non-peak and peak hours, allowing data centres with captive power to optimise costs.
