India is emerging as a hotspot for hotel investments, with major hospitality chains tapping into the region’s tourism appeal and improved connectivity.
Companies such as Lemon Tree Hotels, Radisson Hotel Group, Indian Hotels Co. Juniper Hotels, and Hotel Polo Towers are ramping up their presence across key cities in the North-East. These include Guwahati, Shillong, Itanagar, Dibrugarh, and Jorhat. Lemon Tree Hotels is leading the charge, planning to open a five-star Aurika property in Shillong through a public-private partnership.
The chain also has upcoming managed properties in Guwahati, Chirang, Tezpur, Agartala, and Dibrugarh, expanding its regional inventory to over 560 rooms from the current 80. It already operates a hotel in Gangtok. Radisson Hotel Group is in discussions with hotel owners in Sikkim and Tripura, while Juniper Hotels and Hotel Polo Towers are also aggressively expanding.
Much of this growth is attributed to government-backed infrastructure projects that are improving road and rail access, thus enhancing the region's accessibility. Public-private collaboration and policy support are key factors attracting investors, positioning the North-East as a long-term tourism and hospitality growth corridor in India.
