Madras Aluminium Co Ltd (Malco) -- part of the Sterlite group -- has embarked on a modernisation and revamping project of its facilities. Malco operates a 77,000 tpa alumina refinery and a 26,000 tpa aluminium smelter in at Mettur Dam in Salem district of Tamil Nadu.

The company has invited expressions of interest for several works related to the refinery, smelter and its power plant. Principal works to be undertaken are:

• Upgradation of two rotary kilns of capacity 110 tpd
• Augmentation of refinery capacity from 77,000 tpa to 90,000 tpa.
• Changing design of anode beam and clamps for pots in the smelter
• Upgradation of coal conveyor system in the power plant
