Thyssenkrupp AG’s marine arm and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders plan to build submarines for the Indian Navy to expand its sources of military hardware beyond its top supplier. These companies are likely to jointly bid for an estimated USD 5.2 billion project.
The preliminary agreement or the memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed between Germany and India for Indian-German strategic partnership.
For the submarines, India has identified Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders and infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro to collaborate with foreign defense majors to build the diesel attack submarines.
Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, which is a global submarine manufacturer, is a key choice for a partnership, as it has air-independent propulsion (AIP) technology.
