The government has allowed Dubai Ports
International to bid for the offshore container terminal of Mumbai Port Trust.
As of July 2005, MbPT had received 11 bids from
domestic and international companies for development of the port's offshore
container terminal, its third. Subsequently, three entities -- Dubai Ports
International, Hutchison and Evergreen Marine -- had been barred from submitting
their requests for qualification. (The reasons for this development are not
known.)
Of the three entities, DPI has now been allowed
to bid. As of now, there are nine companies in the fray (including DPI). The
last date of submission of bids has been extended up to 28 November 2005.
