US-based firm Medtronic has opened its newly expanded Medtronic Engineering and Innovation Center (MEIC) in Hyderabad, Telangana. The centre will focus on collaborative innovation, training and education from the expanded space, with the aim to shape the future of healthcare technology.
At 2,50,000 sq. ft. of total space, the new space will house a digital therapy and innovation lab, connected care lab, platform and tech lab, systems engineering lab, software lab, new workstations and wellness amenities for employees. The expansion of this research and development (R&D) centre strategically aligns with the company's goal to boost its global R&D footprint and invest in the local innovation ecosystem.
Further, this expansion is part of the investment of more than USD 350 million announced by Medtronic over a five-year period to scale up the R&D facility and employ 1,500 people in future. Currently, MEIC employs over 900 engineers in the city.
Presently, MEIC supports many global business units of Medtronic to provide software engineering solutions and other engineering expertise in the areas of embedded and enterprise software, product security, data engineering, and others.
