Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma inaugurated a Rs 340-crore PepsiCo bottling plant in Mendipathar, North Garo Hills District on 30 July, 2025 - the largest such facility in the Northeast.
Spread over 37 acres in the Mendipathar Industrial Area, the plant is expected to create significant direct and indirect employment opportunities and stimulate ancillary industries. The CM recalled that the industrial area was conceptualised in the 1990s but saw no investment for over three decades. He paid tribute to his late father, former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma, crediting him for the vision behind the project. Mendipathar is the state’s only town with a railway head, making it a strategic location for industrial growth.
CM Sangma also announced that another beverage plant in the Tikrikilla-Bajengdoba region is nearing completion, further boosting Meghalaya’s industrial growth and economic potential.
