Micromax Informatics, an Indian mobile phone company, has partnered with Taiwanese NAND storage chip maker Phison to form a joint venture called MiPhi. The 55:45 partnership will focus on producing high-end storage products, such as solid-state drives (SSDs), catering to enterprise, automotive, and AI applications.
Production will commence next year at Micromax’s Greater Noida facility, where the venture will also train users to integrate the chips with existing systems. Co-founder Rahul Sharma emphasised the potential impact of MiPhi on the AI landscape, stating, “With this venture, we aim to bring down the cost of GPU by one-tenth by bringing the lowest per token cost in the world.” This disruption aims to enhance the affordability of AI solutions in India and select global markets.
MiPhi’s go-to-market strategy will combine Micromax’s local market expertise and strong client relationships with Phison’s advanced NAND storage technology. The company will target multiple industries, including automotive, IoT, data centres, IT hubs, and consumer devices. Specialised focus areas will include custom-designed storage solutions for AI and security applications. The initiative aligns with India’s increasing prominence as a technological hub.
For Phison, India provides an excellent platform for homegrown companies to achieve rapid technological advancements. MiPhi’s localised approach and collaborative strategy position it to deliver cutting-edge solutions while driving cost efficiency in key sectors.
