The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has surpassed its target for construction of national highways in the country till 31 August 2020.
A total of 3,181 km national highways were constructed during April to August 2020 against the target of 2,771 km. This includes 2,104 km by state Public Works Department (PWDs), 879 km by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and 198 km by National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL).
Further, 3,300 km length of national highway works have been awarded till August 2020, which is more than double of 1,367 km awarded till August 2019. This includes 2,167 km of national highways by PWDs, 793 km by NHAI, and 341 km by NHIDCL.
Sanctions were issued for construction of 2,983 km national highways all over the country till August 2020. This includes 1,265 km by PWDs, 1,183 km by NHAI, and 535 km by NHIDCL.
