Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has outlined a transformative roadmap for India’s transportation sector, emphasising cutting-edge mobility solutions including electric buses, hyperloop systems, and ropeway connectivity.
The Minister stated, “We are driving innovation. A revolution in mass mobility is underway,” highlighting efforts to reduce pollution, improve connectivity, and cut logistics costs. Work is underway on 360 ropeway and funicular railway projects across hilly terrains like Kedarnath, with 60 already progressing. Urban pilot initiatives like Metrino pod taxis, pillar-based transit, and hyperloop systems are planned for Delhi and Bengaluru.
Electric buses for Nagpur with 135 seats, AC, and high-speed capability (120–125 km/h) will begin on a trial basis before being introduced on routes like Delhi-Jaipur and Mumbai-Pune. National highways have expanded from 91,287 km in 2013–14 to 1,46,204 km, while high-speed corridors grew from 93 km to 2,474 km. New technologies like precast roads, AI monitoring, and road barriers are being deployed.
