The New and Renewable Energy Department of Madhya Pradesh plans to increase the storage capacity of the Morena Solar Project from the current four hours to a full 24 hours in phased increments of six, eight, and 10 hours.
Recently, the project achieved a record low tariff of Rs 2.70 per unit. Once the 24-hour storage capacity is attained, Madhya Pradesh aims to supply stored solar power to other states in need. Berkeley University of California has established a centre in Bhopal to assist with solar energy initiatives and is collaborating with the state’s energy department. Future solar projects are also planned in Dhar and Shivpuri districts.
Additionally, a pumped storage hydropower project is underway in Neemuch, which will help generate clean energy by pumping water to a hilltop reservoir during the day and releasing it at night, supporting continuous power generation.
