ONGC commissioned the Mumbai High Uran Trunk (MUT) pipeline project on 8 June 2005. The 504.95 km pipeline was built at a cost of Rs.2,638.20 crore.

The MUT sub-sea pipeline will replace the existing Bombay High Uran Trunk (BUT) pipeline that transports oil and gas from Mumbai offshore to the onshore process complex at Uran for further processing.

The MUT pipeline comprises a 30-inch dia oil trunk pipeline and a 28-inch dia gas trunk pipeline each of 204 km length. These pipelines originate at Mumbai High at a water depth of 72m and touch the shore at the Uran landfall point.

The trunk pipelines are designed to transport 3.27 lakh barrels of oil per day and 12.24 mmscmd of gas from the western offshore to the Uran terminal. The project was executed by Hyundai Heavy Industries of South Korea while Engineers India was the project consultant.

Besides laying of the trunk pipelines, the project also involves installation of 900 tonnes of subsea structures, modification works on six platforms.
