The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will soon float tenders for 126 km long satellite town ring road (STRR) in Karnataka.
The road project is expected to reduce vehicular traffic in the city. The Union government has taken up the 180-km expressway project to provide an alternative to highway traffic that is currently passing through Bengaluru.
The six-lane road will be a ring around the city. From Dobbspet, it will connect Doddaballapur, Devanahalli, Hoskote, Sarjapur, Anekal, Kanakapura, Ramanagaram and Magadi.
The project will be implemented in three phases and tenders for the first and third phase will be called by the end of 2018.
Phase-I will be between Dobbspet and Ramanagaram with a total length of around 80 km, and 46 km Phase-III on the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border. The 45 km of the road is in Tamil Nadu. The Phase-II stretch that passes through the Bannerghatta forest area may take some time.
