The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) is
likely to come up near Madurai in Tamil Nadu.
For this purpose, a team of experts from the Department of Pharmaceuticals,
under the Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, inspected the sites at
Edaiyapatti and Ambalapatti recently. The officials would be sending a project
assessment report accordingly to the Planning Commission and the Cabinet for
approval. Around 100 acre of land has been required for setting up NIPER at an
outlay of Rs 200 crore.
Similar institutes have been proposed at Mohali, Hyderabad, Hajipur, Kolkata,
Rae Bareli and Guwahati.
