Nagpur is poised to emerge as a major hub for the animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, and extended reality (AVGC-XR) sector in Maharashtra, following the state Cabinet’s approval of the AVGC-XR Policy 2025.
The policy, with an outlay of Rs 3,268 crore, envisions attracting Rs 50,000 crore in investments and creating two lakh high-tech employment opportunities by 2050. Chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the meeting granted AVGC-XR the status of an industry and infrastructure sector.
The government plans to develop AVGC-XR Parks in Nagpur, Mumbai’s Film City, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Kolhapur, Satara, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, equipped with cutting-edge facilities like motion capture studios, post-production labs, AI-based animation, and metaverse infrastructure. Around 60 percent of land in industrial zones will be reserved for AVGC-XR use.
