On 25 February 2014, L K Advani, senior BJP leader, inaugurated Narmada-Kshipra link project, a part of Narmada-Kshipra-Simhastha link lift irrigation scheme in Madhya Pradesh.
As part of the Narmada-Kshipra link project, Narmada's water has been lifted 350 mtr through pipelines spread over almost 49 km to Kshipra river in Ujjain. Work on the project was completed in a record time of 14 months.
The Narmada-Kshipra-Simhastha link lift irrigation scheme project is being developed by the Narmada Valley Development Authority, in four phases. In three phases the project will connect river Ganga to three rivers - Gambhir, Kalisindh, Parvati.
Once all phases of the project are completed, about 3,000 villages and 72 towns will get drinking water and water to irrigate 16 lakh acre of the land.
