The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has approved a Rs 305 crore water supply improvement project under the Centre’s Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme.
The project was sanctioned by NMC's standing committee and will be executed by Kolhapur-based Laxmi Civil Engineering Services (LCESPL), with the work order set to follow. The initiative focuses on replacing 250 km of aging water pipelines and laying 100 km of new lines in developing areas to enhance the city's water distribution system. Funding for the project is structured equally, with 50 percent coming from the Central government, and the remaining 50 percent to be financed by the civic body itself.
The project comprises six major components, including a Rs 95.2 crore investment to replace pipelines carrying raw water to filtration plants and purified water to elevated storage tanks. Another Rs 90.3 crore will be allocated to replace old distribution lines in various city sectors. A key goal is to reduce non-revenue water (NRW) losses—from the current 45 percent to below 20 percent—by minimizing leakage and inefficiencies in the existing system.
