Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that the state government has set a target of 30 September, 2025, for the inauguration of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA).
"Today we have set the target as we have to seek an appointment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We have set a target of September 30. This is an ambitious one but we have told officials of Adani, Navi Mumbai airport authority and CIDCO that you double or triple the 13,000 workers currently working here," CM Fadnavis said after inspecting the site with Deputy CM Eknath Shinde. The Chief Minister confirmed that all licenses required for commercial operations are in place.
CM Fadnavis noted that 94 percent of the airport's physical work is complete, including runways and the terminal building. NMIA will be larger than the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, with two runways and a focus on green infrastructure. The airport will also feature EV and alternate-fuel vehicles and will be connected via road, rail, metro, and water transport.
