The Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGenco) has successfully synchronised the new 800 MW Unit-8 (Stage V) of the Dr. Narla Tatarao Thermal Power Station (NTTPS) with the electrical grid on 11 June, 2023.
The 800 MW boiler installed on 80 acres of land has been built with supercritical technology and an energy-efficient turbine and generator. The APGenco team, Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) and BGR EPC contractors were involved in achieving this milestone.
With the trial operation of the new unit, the thermal installed capacity of APGenco has reached 8,789 MW.
In March, 2023, the 800 MW Unit-III of the Sri Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Station (SDSTPS) in Nellore was commissioned, along with its COD completed.
APGenco contributes 102 to 105 million units of power to the state grid on a daily basis, which makes up for up to 45 percent of the total electricity consumption, which is also the highest-ever power generation capacity since bifurcation. Recently, in AP alone, two 800 MW supercritical units have been commissioned.
The overall aim is to adopt the best practices, improve operational efficiency, and specifically for APGenco to maintain the highest plant load factor (PLF). Through the power utilities, the state government is pursuing the objective of providing 24x7 power to all consumer categories and ensuring nine hours’ day-time power for agricultural purposes.
