Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu inaugurated the new terminal building at Donyi Polo Airport in Hollongi, Arunachal Pradesh, on 04 September, 2025, highlighting the Centre’s priority on enhancing air connectivity in the northeast.
The new terminal, with a pre-cover capacity of 800 passengers, can now handle up to 15 lakh people annually, compared to just 150 at the previous temporary building. To further strengthen regional links, the Centre is advancing plans under the extended UDAN scheme, renewed for 10 years, with a focus on heliports in Arunachal Pradesh, northeastern states, hilly regions, and aspirational districts.
Starting September 17, IndiGo will operate daily flights from Itanagar to Delhi, in addition to existing connections with Guwahati, Kolkata, and Tezu. Airports in Pasighat, Tezu, and Ziro will also see development. Several passenger-centric initiatives were launched, including UDAN Yatri Café, a library service, AVASAR stalls for women’s groups, and a kids’ store. Plans for free Wi-Fi, charging stations, and workspaces are also underway.
