Essar Steel has inked deals with the Ahluwalia Group and the Mesco Group,
both iron-ore miners from Orissa.
The company has inked the deal for supplies over a 10-year period. Essar will
source ore from 8-10 different exporters as it expands capacity at Hazira in
Gujarat. It is looking at using iron ore fines that are lying in dumps in and
around the mines and for which now there is practically little use.
The company has been scouting for raw materials for the capacity expansion at
Hazira to 10 million tonne from the current 4.6 million tonne, by March 2012.
