The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is keen to finance the
Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project.
On completion, India is likely to get 38 mmscmd of gas. The ADB is the lead
partner of the project. According to sources, ADB is open to considering
financing the project from its private or public sector window. The TAPI project
envisages building of 1,680 km of pipeline with a total gas capacity of 90
mmscmd.
The Government of India along with Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan on
20 September 2010 signed gas pipeline framework agreement and heads of agreement
for the proposed gas sale purchase agreement relating to the $8 billion (approx
Rs 37,200 crore) TAPI project.
