Shriram EPC is likely to merge its two wind power JVs -- Leitner Shriram and
Shriram Leitwind -- which it operates with Italy’s Leitner Technologies by
December 2009.
Leitner Shriram, the 51:49 JV between Leitner and Shriram, manufactures wind
turbine generators (WTGs). Shriram Leitwind is involved in marketing,
installation and operation & maintenance of wind farms. Shriram holds 51 per
cent and Leitner 49 per cent in this venture.
As per sources, in India, the company that makes WTGs also installs them. So
Shriram has decided to merge the two companies. Leitner might hold 51.25 per
cent shares in the new entity and Shriram the rest.
Leitner Shriram currently manufactures 250 kW and 1.5 MW class WTGs at its
plant in Gummidipundi near Chennai. The current capacity of the plant is 120
machines a year or 180 MW. So far, both the partners have invested about Rs 120
crore in the plant.
