The Tuticorin Port Trust has shortlisted nine companies for construction of a
seven million tpa capacity dry bulk cargo berth - North Cargo Berth II - on PPP
basis. The berth, estimated to cost Rs 312 crore, will handle copper concentrate
for Sterlite and industrial coal.
Among the companies which have been short listed are Sterlite, Sical
Logistics, Chettinad Logistics and ABG.
The Port Trust has sent the short listed names to the Union Government for
security clearance. Once they receive the clearance from the government, RFPs
are likely to be invited.
The concession agreement is likely to be signed by July 2010. The proposed
berth is expected to be ready in 18 months from the date of signing of the
agreement.
