The Maharashtra Government on 20 May 2011 approved MAHAGENCO's plan to
develop a 155 MW photovoltaic-based solar project in the state.
In Dhule district, two plants with a combined capacity of 150 MW will come
up, while a five MW pilot plant will be set up in Chandrapur district. The
project entails an investment of Rs 1,987 crore. Of this, the state government
will give 20 per cent, or Rs 397.4 crore, and the rest is to be raised from
financial institutions. KfW (German government-owned development bank) is likely
to provide necessary funds. The project is slated to go on stream by April 2012.
MAHAGENCO has already entered into an agreement with MahaVitaran for supply of
power from the project.
