In a major boost to the Aviation sector, the Noida International Airport (NIAL) has invited global tenders for development of greenfield Noida International Airport near Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, on design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT).
The bidding will be made on per passenger basis, to be completed in a single stage and the tender finalised on 29 November 2019.
The State Cabinet held a meeting in Lucknow on 28 May 2019 and approved the bid document for development of the airport.
Once completed this will be the second airport in the National Capital Region (NCR) after Delhi's Indira Gandhi International airport. It is touted to be the biggest in the country once fully operational.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs 15,754 crore. The first phase development of the airport will cost Rs 4,086.54 crore.
The cost includes Rs 2,848.35 crore for compensation over acquisition of private land, Rs 894.53 crore towards resettlement and rehabilitation of families displaced due to the projects, Rs 318.66 crore as additional compensation and cost of assets, and Rs 25 crore in administrative expenses.
The state government has given approval for conducting a study for developing the airport with six runways, the most in the country. On completion the entire project will be spread in an area of 5,000 ha.
Around 1,333 ha of land has been acquired from six villages for Phase-I, including 95 ha of government land and 1,239.1416 ha private land.
Phase-I of the project will be completed in an area of over 1,300 ha with two runways. The development work is likely to commence early in 2020 with Phase-I expected to be completed by 2023.
The initial capacity of the airport is expected to be 12 million passengers. This will rise up to 70 million for two runways and will increase to 200 million during later stages with construction of six runways.
The airport was first mulled in 2003 and got approved from the Centre and the state government in 2017.
