NxtCell India has partnered with Padget Electronics, a subsidiary of Dixon Technologies, to initiate production of Alcatel-branded smartphones. The first batch of locally manufactured devices is expected to launch within the next eight to 10 weeks.
“We have partnered with Dixon Technologies subsidiary Padget Electronics for manufacturing a range of devices under the French technology brand Alcatel. We are starting with 1.2 million annual smartphone production and will expand to other portfolio devices gradually,” , Chief Business Officer, NxtCell India, Atul Vivek said. To support this relaunch, NxtCell has committed an initial investment of USD 30 million.
The production facility at Padget will employ 500 workers, including 200 staff members dedicated exclusively to Alcatel manufacturing. The company has implemented a smooth technology transfer process to ensure advanced manufacturing standards and reinforce its commitment to domestic production. The upcoming smartphone range will initially target the Rs 20,000–Rs 25,000 segment, where NxtCell sees substantial growth potential. A key differentiator will be the introduction of stylus-equipped smartphones at mid-range price points.
In a related development, Dixon has entered into a joint venture with Taiwan-based Inventec Corporation to manufacture personal computers, servers, and components under the newly formed entity, Dixon IT Devices. Dixon will hold a 60% stake in the JV, while Inventec will own 40%, with joint board oversight. These initiatives collectively underscore India’s increasing role as a global electronics manufacturing hub and align with the government's vision of enhancing local production capabilities across key technology sectors.
