The Odisha government has approved 11 projects with a total investment outlay of Rs 2,841 crore in various locations across the state during the State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA) meeting held on 8 May, 2023.
The approval has been accorded for upcoming projects at Bolangir, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Sambalpur and Sundargarh districts. The projects are expected to generate employment avenues for 3,721 people. Nine of the 11 projects were proposed by companies which attended the 'Make in Odisha' conclave in December 2022.
The projects cover sectors such as chemicals, plastics, food processing and packaging, textiles and apparel, tourism and renewable energy, and aluminium to steel segments. The approved projects include an Rs 896.98 crore steel plant of the RCR Steel Works to be set up at Jamda in Mayurbhanj district, and will lead to job creation for 750 people.
The committee also approved the proposal for expansion of the Utkal Alumina International in Rayagada district and Hindalco Industries at Lapanga in Sambalpur, which will entail an investment of nearly Rs 1,000 crore and subsequent employment opportunities for 500 people.
The proposal forwarded by Mahindra Holidays and Resorts India for a resort at Somolo Island of Chilika Lake in Ganjam district for Rs 228.45 crore has also received the nod. Among other approved projects include the proposal to establish a Rs 303 crore manufacturing unit in Paradip by Ion Exchange (India) and a Rs 100 crore fabric processing plant by the Indian Stitches with employment potential for 1,000 people.
