Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated 103 Amrit Bharat railway stations from Bikaner, Rajasthan, marking a major milestone in India’s railway modernization efforts.
The event was attended by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. These upgraded stations are spread across 18 states and union territories, showcasing a nationwide infrastructure push.
The inauguration included stations in states such as Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and West Bengal, among others.
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) is a central government initiative aimed at transforming over 1,300 railway stations in phases. It focuses on enhancing passenger comfort through better amenities such as waiting halls, toilets, lifts, escalators, digital information systems, free Wi-Fi, and facilities for people with disabilities. The first station modernized under ABSS was Gandhinagar in Gujarat in 2021.
Each station’s redevelopment plan is tailored to local needs and often reflects regional culture and heritage in its design.
