Prime Minister Narendra Modi has virtually inaugurated the new integrated terminal building (NITB) of Veer Savarkar International Airport, located at Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The terminal building, having a shell-like structure depicting the natural environs of the islands, has been developed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) at Rs 707.73 crore. It can handle 1,200 passengers during peak hours, and around 40 lakh passengers annually.
The total built-up area is 40,837 sq. mtrs. and is a three-storey building equipped with 28 check-in counters, three passenger boarding bridges and four conveyor belts.
In addition, the entire terminal is designed to ensure 100 percent natural lighting for 12 hours a day through skylights on the roof.
