Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stone for SJVN’s 200 MW solar power project at Khavda Solar Park in Kachchh, Gujarat, under GUVNL Phase XVII, on 20 September, 2025.
The event was attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, Union Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Chandrakant Patil, Shantanu Thakur, Nimuben Bambhaniya, and senior officials from SJVN and SGEL. The project, developed by Gujarat State Electricity Corporation (GSECL), will supply power to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (GUVNL) for 25 years at a tariff of Rs 2.88 per unit.
With an estimated investment of Rs 866.8 crore, the project is expected to generate 504.92 million units in its first year and 11,620 million units over 25 years, reducing carbon emissions by approx. 5.69 lakh tonne. Scheduled for commissioning by 31 December, 2026, the project will contribute to India’s renewable energy target of 500 GW by 2030 and Net Zero by 2070, create employment, and utilize Kachchh’s arid land for clean energy generation.
