Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate three new Kolkata Metro routes—the Green, Orange, and Yellow Lines on August 22.
Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has invited West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to attend the event. A subway at Howrah metro station will also be launched. The Green Line will be completed with the Sealdah–Esplanade section, the Orange Line will extend from Ruby Crossing to Beleghata with four stations, and the Yellow Line will link Noapara to Jai Hind (Biman Bandar/airport), offering four new stations and a direct airport connection.
Railways Minister Vaishnaw reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment, citing Rs 83,765 crore worth of ongoing rail projects in Bengal, a record Rs 13,955 crore budgetary allocation, and the redevelopment of 101 stations. He noted that nine Vande Bharat and two Amrit Bharat trains already serve the state.
