Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (PVUNL), a joint venture between NTPC and Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam (JBVNL), has announced the start of 85 percent power supply from its first 800 MW unit of the 3x800 MW plant under Phase-1 of its 4,000 MW supercritical thermal power project.
The unit commenced commercial operations on November 5. PVUNL is generating around 80 percent of the installed capacity, providing nearly 540 MW to Jharkhand. The first unit, costing Rs 9,000 crore, is part of a two-phase project, with unit-2 set for commissioning by March 2026 and unit-3 in the next financial year. NTPC holds 74 percent and JBVNL 26 percent in the joint venture.
The plant, built on the site of the former Patratu Thermal Power Station, incorporates advanced technologies for high efficiency and minimal water usage.
