A joint technical committee has recommended a sea link, a coastal road and an underground tunnel for the extension of the Bandra-Worli sea link to Haji Ali and further to Nariman Point in Mumbai.
As per the panels’ proposal, there should be a bridge across Haji Ali bay, a coastal road from Mahalaxmi Temple to Priyadarshini Park, a tunnel from Malabar Hill to Chowpatty, and a cut and cover tunnel under Marine Drive up to Nariman Point.
The project has been held up due to the state government’s refusal to pay the viability gap funding (VGF) of Rs 1,392 crore. Now, the state government has reportedly asked the developer, Reliance Infrastructure (R-Infra), to begin work on the basis of a bank guarantee.
