The expansion of Raxaul Airport, located near the India-Nepal border, has gained momentum with a Rs 208 crore investment from the Bihar government for land acquisition.
This initiative aims to improve air connectivity in the border areas of Bihar and strengthen economic and strategic ties between India and Nepal. The state has released Rs 207.7 crore for acquiring 139 acres of land, and the district administration is accelerating compensation payments to landowners to speed up the project. The redevelopment includes a major runway extension, increasing its length to 2,360 mtrs., nearly 1,000 mtrs. longer than the current runway. This expansion will allow larger commercial aircraft like the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 to operate, as well as Indian Air Force jets during emergencies or military operations.
Nilesh Ramchandra Deore, Special Secretary of the civil aviation department, confirmed that the layout is ready and construction will begin soon after compensation payments are completed. This project promises to significantly enhance connectivity, benefiting both commercial and strategic operations in the region.
