Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a new terminal building at Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport in Patna, Bihar, and laid the foundation stone for a civil enclave at Bihta airport, located on the city’s outskirts. The Patna terminal was developed at a cost of Rs 1,200 crore, while the Bihta civil enclave project is estimated to require Rs 1,410 crore.
The inauguration took place during Modi’s two-day visit to Bihar ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Key dignitaries, including Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, and Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, were present at the event. The new Patna terminal spans 65,150 sq. mtrs., and is designed to handle 3,000 passengers during peak hours, scaling up to an annual capacity of one crore passengers. It integrates regional design elements inspired by the local landscape and Mithila art.
Meanwhile, the Bihta terminal will cover 68,000 sq. mtrs. and is expected to serve 50 lakh passengers annually by 2047. The facility will include infrastructure such as a multilevel car park, service block, LED lighting, insulated roofing, and heat-resistant glazing for energy efficiency.
