Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) is pursuing a transmission licence from the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) for a Rs.1,015 crore interstate transmission system (ISTS) project.
The scheme, now consolidated under the regulated tariff mechanism (RTM) framework, merges two earlier transmission projects that failed to attract bids under the TBCB route. The unified project, titled “Augmentation of transformation capacity at Bhuj-II PS (GIS) & Provision of ICT augmentation and bus reactor at Bhuj-II PS,” will be executed by Powergrid Bhuj Transmission, a TBCB subsidiary of PGCIL. CERC has granted an interim licence and scheduled a final hearing for 16 October, 2025, while inviting public suggestions or objections by October 9.
Deemed critical for renewable energy evacuation from Gujarat’s Bhuj region, the project has a 21-month timeline and received CTUIL approval in February and March 2025 for its respective components.
