The Union Ministry of Power has decided that six thermal power plants may be
run on blended coal to partly overcome the coal shortage from domestic sources.
According to sources, the government has proposed to run some of the thermal
plants by blending imported coal with indigenous one in order to bridge the gap
between demand and indigenous coal availability.
The ministry has identified the 1,040 MW Koradi, 880 MW Nashik, 475 MW
Bhusawal, 1,170 MW Parli, 840 MW Khaperkheda and the 500 MW Dahanu thermal
plants in Maharashtra for using blending imported coal. Apart from this, JSW
Energy is setting up a thermal plant with capacity of 4x300 MW at Ratnagiri
which will also be using blended coal.
