Puducherry has recently added 13.794 MW of renewable energy capacity through the Central government's Grid Connected Rooftop Solar (GCRT) programme and the PM Surya Ghar Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY) scheme.
Shripad Yesso Naik, the Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy and Power, stated this while responding to a question in the Lok Sabha from Member of Parliament V. Vaithilingam. The Ministry has allocated Rs 16.21 crore for the installation of 2,329 solar projects in the Union Territory. Under the PMSGMBY scheme, financial assistance is provided to residential households for setting up rooftop solar plants, with subsidies of Rs 30,000 for one KW, Rs 60,000 for two KW, and Rs 78,000 for three KW or more.
The Ministry has also extended financial support for rooftop solar installations across residential, institutional, and social sector categories under the GCRT programme. The initiative aims to encourage renewable energy adoption and provide technical support to consumers.
