Rashtriya Ispat Nigam (RINL), state-run steelmaker, is revamping its 1991 blast furnace-I at the Visakhapatnam plant in Andhra Pradesh.
The company is investing Rs 500 crore in the project. The revamping of the plant is being executed by Siemens VAI, an Austria-based engineering and plant-building company for the steel industry. The company has already commenced work which is expected to be completed by February 2014.
The project will increase the furnace's melting capacity to 2.5 million tpa from 1.8 million tpa and will increase the size of the 3,200 cu mtr furnace to 3,800 cu mtr.
