Rajasthan has made significant strides in solar energy, installing over 35 GW of solar projects, but developers have urged the state to harness its 284 GW wind energy potential to maintain grid stability.
Currently, wind energy accounts for only 5.2 GW of Rajasthan’s total renewable capacity, despite the large untapped potential. Experts warn that relying too heavily on solar could destabilize the grid, as wind power and battery storage are critical to balancing energy supply. At a meeting with government officials, wind power developers called for the reservation of high-potential wind zones like Fatehgarh and Ramgarh.
Rohit Gupta, Chairman of Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation (RRECL), noted that land reservation for wind projects is a complex issue that requires careful consideration. Rajendra Vyas from the Indian Wind Power Association emphasised that integrating wind, solar, and storage is essential for ensuring reliable energy transition. "Greater wind penetration can smooth generation curves," said DD Agarwal of Samta Power.
