Rajesh Power Services (RPSL) has bagged a 65 MW/130 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Gujarat after receiving a letter of intent (LoI) from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam, marking the firm’s entry into utility-scale battery storage.
The project, located in Virpore, Gujarat, was awarded through tariff-based competitive bidding with viability gap funding (VGF) support via the Power System Development Fund (PSDF). It is expected to be completed within 18 months from the signing of the battery energy storage purchase agreement (BESPA). The BESS can supply 65 MW of power for up to two hours, aiding utilities in managing peak demand, enhancing grid stability, and supporting renewable energy integration.
This project is part of Gujarat’s larger plan to develop 2,000 MW / 4,000 MWh of battery storage capacity. Standalone battery storage is gaining momentum across India as utilities seek solutions for renewable intermittency and stronger grid operations during peak demand periods.
