Sewage and water supply lines will soon be laid in Ramnagar and Sujabad, which were recently merged into Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) limits.
The Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam (UPJN) has submitted and secured approval for detailed project reports (DPRs) worth Rs 277 crore for Ramnagar and Rs 36.45 crore for Sujabad, with budget allocation already made. Following the merger of Ramnagar Palika Parishad and Sujabad Nagar Panchayat in 2022–23, and expansion into Rohania, VMC wards increased from 90 to 100.
Reviewing progress, Mayor Ashok Tiwari emphasised prioritising “accessible drinking water and sewage systems” for residents. According to UPJN engineers, Ramnagar will see a 93 km water line at Rs 94.44 crore and an 80 km sewer line at Rs 182 crore. In Sujabad Domari, 63 km of water lines will be laid at Rs 36.45 lakh.
The Mayor directed Jal Nigam to expedite DPRs for Rohania wards by September 15 and ensure pumping stations at Manikarnika and Namo Ghats run at full capacity.
